We are celebrating 100 Years of Boy Scouts of America values and programs 100th Anniversary "Scout Show" - April 24, 2010 at Coolidge Park As the Council celebration we are hosting the 100th Anniversary Scout Show on April 24, 2010 at Coolidge Park from 10:00a.m to 5:00p.m. We want all Units to join in the opportunity to show the community that the traditions, activities and future of Scouting is alive and growing. Every Unit will be given the opportunity to develop an exhibit for the Scout Show. We are accepting applications now! Exhibit ideas will be approved on a first come first serve bases; make sure you get your application in now. Created specifically for the 100th Anniversary, Adventure Base 100 will tour the country to give people an exciting, hands-on view of the history and future of the Boy Scouts of America. Starting at the Rose Bowl in January and ending at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, this magnificent traveling exhibit will stop in more than 40 cities to share the Scouting experience . We are one of the lucky cities that have been chosen as a stop for the Adventure Base. They will be in Chattanooga June 11-13, 2010 at Riverbend from 4:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Please save the date and plan on being a part of the Adventure Base 100. "The History of Chattanooga Scouting" To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in Chattanooga, the Cherokee Area Council offers you the chance to open a virtual time capsule: Reserve now your copy of "The History of Chattanooga Scouting," a never-before-chronicled history of Chattanooga’s Boy Scouts, authored by local Eagle Scouts. All proceeds will support the preservation of Scouting’s history in Chattanooga. The written history includes a complete documentation of the first ten years of Scouting in Chattanooga, a detailed account of the all summer camps, a listing of all Eagles, a listing of all Wood Badge attendees, a full history of Talidandaganu’ Lodge and more! Join the Cherokee Area Council today in a journey through the mysteries of its own history. To complement this written history, a 2-gigabyte flash drive chock-full of photographs, flyers, newsletters, and other documents is also available and serves to flesh out Scouting’s history in a way that no written history can accomplish. Centennial Time Capsule The Cherokee Area Council is building a time capsule to pay tribute to 100 years of Scouting. We would like all Packs, Troops and Crews to participate. Once the final tally of boxes is gathered at the Council Banquet, a final capsule will be made to accommodate the boxes. Items donated to the Cherokee Area Council 100th Anniversary Time Capsule will be displayed at the Council Volunteer Recognition Banquet on March 26, 2010. Items will then be stored in the Cherokee Area Time Capsule until the 150th Anniversary of Scouting. Click here to print more information. Calling All Scouts (Past and Present)Through the BSA Alumni Connection program (www.BSAalumni.org), Scouting alumni can find friends and mentors, add photos and stories onto the new 100th Anniversary Online Scrapbook, make donations that directly benefit Scouts in the Cherokee Area Council and learn how to get involved in 100th Anniversary activities and events. They will even be able to do something that, for the past 100 years, only active Scouts could do—earn a patch! Celebrating 100 Years - A Year of Celebration For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has created a strong foundation of leadership, service, and community for millions of America’s youth. Through A Year of Celebration, A Century of Making a Difference, we will demonstrate the incredible impact of a century of living the Scout Law. Program participants will earn recognition for making a difference in their communities due to their dedication to five of Scouting’s core values: Leadership, Character, Community Service, Achievement, and the Outdoors. Participants will be able to earn our 100th Anniversary commemorative patch. A Year of Celebration will take place from September 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010.
